Nigeria: Buhari, Atiku Set to Launch Platform Wednesday

Abuja — All is now set for the launching of the National Democratic Movement,a political platform organised by the former Head of State and presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2003 and 2007 Presidential election, General Muhammadu Buhari and the former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Former governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa is also among the three conveners known as G3.

The launching of the National Democratic Movement, a by-product of the National Democratic Initiative (NDI) will take place Wednesday October28 in Abuja .According to the spokesperson of NDI and the Director General of the Buhari Organisation (TBO), Dr. Sule Hamma who spoke to THISDAY on the level of preparations towards the launching of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) said that invitations have been sent to prominent Nigerians for the launching of the political platform by next week Wednesday.

"We have sent out 12 invitation notices each to the six geo-political zones of the country and other invitations sent out was based onindividual capacity", Sule Hamma said, explaining that the meetingwould first go into a consultative summit and thereafter the National Democratic Initiative would transform to the National DemocraticMovement.

It was gathered that some of those invited on their personal capacityinclude the former governor of Lagos state and founder of the Coalition for Democrats for Electoral Reform (CODER), Senator BolaTinubu, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),Chief Olu Falae of the Mega Summit, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chairmanof the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) Board of Trustee and Chief Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, the chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) among others.

THISDAY sources said that the Wednesday consultative meeting in linewith earlier decisions reached in the Kaduna meeting which took placeafter the launching of the Sarduna Foundation.It was gathered that the 23 northern politicians at the meeting agreedto name the political platform, the National Democratic Initiatives(NDI), which by the end of this mouth in Abuja would transform to theNational Democratic Movement.The source also said that before the article of association was signedby the 23 politicians known as G.23, that the issue of thepresidential candidate of the party was thrown open with all those inattendance agreeing that any body could emerge as the presidentialflag bearer and such person should be supported irrespective of whomthe person is." It was a consensus that any one among the 23 of us that signed thearticle of association can aspire to become the presidential candidateas it is not limited to Buhari, Atiku or even Bafarawa. This was themain aspect of the agreement before the article of association waseventually signed." The source told THISDAY.
