Lagos — Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki has decried the Federal Government's plan to deregulate the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, saying it would benefit only a few individuals. Saraki while fielding questions from journalists at the Murtala Muhammad Airport, Ikeja Lagos on Wednesday said deregulation should be carried out in such a way that more Nigerians would benefit from it.
According to him, if the programme was well planned, many Nigerians would like it, adding that it would save a lot of money for the Federal Government. On Nigeria's election to the UN Security Council, the governor said the election was as a result of the country's contributions to global peace-keeping efforts under the UN, adding that the election was a recognition of the role Nigeria was playing in Africa and the world at large. It would be recalled that Nigeria on Oct 16, secured a seat at the United Nations Security Council alongside Gabon and Brazil as non permanent members.
