More than Shs80 billion the government sent to various districts to fight poverty under Naads is feared to have been misused, a new parliamentary inquest has revealed.
At an extraordinary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting on Friday with chief Administrative officers (CAOs) from 80 districts, not a single CAO was able to provide satisfactory accountability of Naads money. Some CAOs blamed lack of accountability to insecurity, political interference, ignorance of the procurement regulations, and creation of new districts while others just begged for mercy.
