Kigali — Rwanda's newly appointed Ambassador to Tanzania, Fatuma Ndagiza, has left for Dar es Salaam where she is set to begin her diplomatic duties.
According to Shakilla Umutoni, the First Counsellor at the Rwandan Embassy in Tanzania, the Rwandan envoy jetted into the country on Thursday and was received by several diplomats at the Julius Nyerere International Airport.
"Yes, she is here. She was actually welcomed by Ambassadors from their group - the African Diplomatic Group," Umutoni said in a telephone interview yesterday.
A former Executive Secretary of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), Ndagiza replaces Ambassador Zeno Mutimura at the embassy.
The First Counsellor added that the embassy was now waiting for word from Tanzania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs when Ndagiza would present her credentials to President Jakaya Kikwete.
Umutoni added that a number of activities are lined up to be carried out as soon as the Rwandan Ambassador presents her credentials to President Kikwete.
"Among other several activities, we are looking at meeting members of the Rwandan Diaspora who live in Tanzania," she said.
Ndagiza was proposed in a Cabinet appointment that also saw the former Director of Cabinet in the President's Office, Maj. Gen. Frank Mugambage, appointed Ambassador to Uganda, replacing Ignatius Kamali Karegyesa who was posted to Pretoria.
