East Africa: EAC-U.S. Joint Forces Rehabilitate School

Kigali — The Rwanda Defence Forces joined other members of the East African Community joint Forces yesterday to handover a new dining hall to Kitgum High School.

The school was built as part of the ongoing Exercise Natural Fire 10 that is underway in Northern Uganda.

The exercise brings together armies of all the five member states of the East African Community (EAC), together with members of the US Africa Command.

The official handover ceremony was presided over by the Secretary General of EAC, Juma Mwapachu,together with the head of the United States Africa Command, Gen William E. Ward.

The Head teacher of the KHS, Mike Ochan, expressed his sincere gratitude to the forces for the rehabilitation of the dining hall that he said would serve more than 1,500 students.

Rwanda has 128 troops participating in the exercise. The soldiers are undergoing series of activities spanning from Humanitarian Civic Assistance (HCA), helicopter familiarization, weapon handling, riot control, hand-to-hand combat and entry control point.

In total, close to 1,150 soldiers drawn from the EAC are taking part in this exercise.
