Kigali — In an effort to FIDESCO, an organization that facilitates street children reintegrated into their homes, yesterday received two vehicles from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

UNICEF and FIDESCO have been working together in the project since 2006, "FIDESCO has enabled 524 children to return home," said Aurélien Agbénonci,United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator, at the handover ceremony.

"The United Nation's remains committed to working with the government of Rwanda and agencies like FIDESCO to realize children rights.

The jeeps will ensure that children who return home and are re-integrated by FIDESCO are continually monitored and supervised.

Rwanda ratified the convention on the rights of the child in 1990. Currently, the government is carrying out a research aimed at evaluating the number of children living and working in the streets of Rwanda, earlier reports indicate the number is in thousands.

Meanwhile the stage is being set for the fifth annual children's summit slatted for next month.

The summit will bring together over 400 children representatives from all 30 districts of the nation to voice their concerns about violence against children and related issues.
