The Senate yesterday threatened to arrest the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aoondoakaa, SAN, for his refusal to appear before the joint committees on Judiciary, Justice and Drugs, Narcotics and Anti-Corruption mandated to investigate the alleged bribing of Nigerian officials by the American oil giant Halliburton.
Chairman of the Joint committee Senator Sola Akinyede (PDP, Ekiti) gave the threat yesterday at the National Assembly when the AGF failed to appear before the committee.
"Halliburton is a very sensitive issue and important matter, Nigerians are watching us and waiting to see what we will do.
"We don't want to be forced to invoke our powers in the constitution to compel him to appear before us."
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Salihu Aliyu told the senators that Mr. Andokaa was on a very important national assignment at the presidential villa that was why he asked him to represent him at the panel. The committee however said it will not accept representation.
