Zambia: Ndola Man Loses Leg in Freak Train Accident

A TWENTY-Five-year-old man in Ndola lost one of his legs yesterday morning after a train hit him.

The man, Lazarus Chama, was allegedly hit by a train at an unknown place and was rushed to Ndola Central Hospital (NCH) for treatment by a good Samaritan.

NCH public relations officer, Euphresia Banda confirmed that the hospital had admitted Mr Chama after being hit by a train.

Ms Banda said the circumstances of the accident were not clear. The patient was brought to the hospital by unknown people.

"The man identified as Lazarus Chama was brought to the hospital in the early hours of today (yesterday) by unknown people and the details of the accident are not known," she said.

Ms Banda said the details the hospital had were those on his national registration card that he was from Kasama.

The people that took Mr Chama to NCH said that his leg got cut off because a train hit him.

Ms Banda said Mr Chama lost his right leg in the accident and sustained a fractured tibia in his left leg.

She said Mr Chama was sedated after he was given an anaesthetic drug.
