MMD Ndola District youth chairperson, Patrick Nyasulu has been suspended from the party for alleged gross indiscipline following his recent media attack on provincial party chairperson Joseph Chilambwe.
Ndola District MMD disciplinary committee chairperson Victor Chimuka confirmed having authored a suspension letter in an interview yesterday.
MMD provincial youth chairperson, Evans Chibanda also confirmed that Ndola district had told him of Mr Nyasulu's suspension.
Mr Chimuka warned that the party would not hesitate to mete out disciplinary action against youths involved in any form of indiscipline.
He said the disciplinary action taken on Mr Nyasulu should be a warning to other youths who may wish to issue false and unsubstantiated allegations against senior party officials.
"Yes, I can confirm that Mr Nyasulu has been suspended from the party for gross indiscipline. He has been suspended because we can't allow such kind of indiscipline in the party," he said.
Mr Nyasulu was on Saturday quoted in some sections of the media as saying Mr Chilambwe should resign from the party because he was incompetent and had allegedly misappropriated K15 million party funds.
But Mr Chimuka warned youths in the province not to allow themselves to be used by some disgruntled politicians to destabilise the party through issuing false media statements.
He said the party was aware some district executive officials in Ndola were holding dark corner meetings with people whose interest was to destabilise the party in the province.
"We know that sometimes they hold dark corner meetings but during the day, they claim to be loyal to MMD and President Rupiah Banda, when in actual fact what they do at night is something else. We know them and we are watching them," Mr Chimuka said.
Provincial youth secretary, Enock Kapalu said in a separate interview in Kitwe that youths would not allow fellow youths to undermine leadership at provincial or national level.
Mr Kapalu said Mr Nyasulu had no backing from the party.
He echoed Mr Chimuka's sentiments that the party was aware of what was happening in Ndola and there were some people holding dark corner meetings with people who were enemies of the party.
He said the party was also aware that youths in Ndola were allegedly working with suspended Kafulafuta Member of Parliament (MP) George Mpombo.
Mr Kapalu called on the youth in the province to use laid down procedure to air their grievances and not the Press.
He commended President Banda for his wise leadership despite being criticised by people in and outside the party.
