Kigali — Eighteen of the 20 foreigners who applied for Rwandan nationality status have been cleared and three of them will take oath in Gasabo district today, an official revealed yesterday.
The applicants sat for nationality exams late August this year.
"What follows now is for them to take oath - they will all be taking oath in their respective districts of residence, starting tomorrow (Monday) with the three from Gasabo district," Damascene Rusanganwa official in charge of nationality issues at the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration said.
He noted that the same exercise will be conducted in Kirehe district on Tuesday where one successful candidate resides. Three more will take oath in Nyarugenge district on Wednesday and all the others in Kicukiro district the day after.
According to Rusanganwa, another group of 24 nationality aspirants will seat exams on a date yet to be fixed this week.
"During the course of this week, we will also conduct other interviews for 24 others who applied for nationality," he said.
The Directorate of Immigration and Emigration started working on the approval for Rwandan citizenship after a May 29 Presidential order placed the responsibility of approving non-nationals interested in acquiring Rwandan citizenship from the from Ministry of Justice to the department of Immigration and Emigration.
