The day was an opportunity for Protestants to given thanks to God for 40 years of unity of Protestantism in Cameroon.

The May 20 Boulevard in Yaounde was the venue yesterday for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Protestantism in Cameroon. Organised by the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon (CEPCA), the event brought together protestant Christians from the Lutheran, Baptist, Evangelical and Presbyterian churches in the country. The 40th anniversary celebrations took place in the presence of top officials of the Centre Region, members of government, the diplomatic corps as well as invited guests. The celebration was an opportunity for Protestants to give thanks to God for 40 years of unity of Protestantism in Cameroon. The event was marked by prayers, meditations, messages and praise worship.

In his message to the Christians, the President of CEPCA, Rev. Robert Goyek Daga, said 40 years is a moment of renewal of their consciences with Christ and to renew the engagements for the success of CEPCA. Paul Pondi, an elite said on this 40th anniversary, CEPCA needs protestant Christians who love God and the church, Christians who give to God their time, money and their talents. In his sermon, the main preacher, Rev. Isaac Batomen of the Eglise Evangelique du Cameroun (EEC) said Protestantism was born for salvation through faith. Therefore the protestant is never neutral when faced with a situation where we must take a position. He made allusion to the story in the book of Saint Mark in the Bible where Jesus chased out people carrying out unscrupulous activities in the temple to cleanse the house of God. He said Protestants should be led by the word of God as contained in the Holy Bible. They should look on the Bible as the source of all their activities. He said Protestants Christians should perpetrate the values that gave Protestantism its name. Protestants should say no to those things that destroy man. He said after 40 years, Protestants should start anew and remember that the love of God obliges them to change the world with protestant values such as liberty, freedom of expression and aiming for perfection. "As Protestants we have to save their land and restore the dignity of our people," he said.

Martin Luther was a Christian theologian and Augustinian monk whose teachings inspired the Protestant Reformation and deeply influenced the doctrines of Protestant and other Christian traditions.
