Nigeria/South Africa: Locals in South Africa Eager to See Eagles- Etafia

Despite Nigeria's not-too-impressive performance since the beginning of the final rounds of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, Super Eagles and Moroka Swallows goalkeeper, Greg Etafia, has declared that Nigerians residing in the former apartheid enclave are eager to see the team during the football fiesta.

Etafia while assessing the performance of the Shaibu Amodu tutored-team in their last match against the Mambas of Mozambique pleaded with Nigerians not to lose faith in the squad.

"Personally, I felt very happy being offered another chance to return to the Eagles during the match against Mozambique. It was another opportunity for me to represent my country and I will live to cherish the experience. We were all happy the team won and everyone is optimistic that at the end of the next match against Kenya, we will get the desired result and the ticket to the World Cup.

"Already, Nigerians residing in South Africa are looking forward to welcoming the team during the football fiesta next year. I can tell you, they are confident that Nigeria will do Africa proud. Hopefully, we will be looking to achieve that by putting everything into the Nairobi game to ensure we qualify," he added.

Speaking further, the former Plateau United safe-hands told Saturday Champion Sport that he was looking up to God to direct his career, even as he declared that he's happy with his exploits in the South African league so far.

"My achievements both for country and club came through the talent that God gave me. It has nothing to do with myself, I can do nothing without Him. I was frustrated because of an injury soon after being called up for the national team at the time of the Olympic qualifiers. Luckily, a Christian prayed for me and told me that God had a plan for me and that I should put my trust in Him. It was then that I accepted Jesus into my life and asked Him to heal me.

Jesus answered my prayer and from that time He has guided me and my main focus is to glorify Him through my soccer. My future is in God's hands. I want to tell people how wonderful God is," Etafia sounded-off.
