Abuja — The peninsula beauty of Port Harcourt will soon be restored as efforts are being made by the Rivers state government to reclaim the masterplan of the city which was drawn up since the 1920s and has been bastardised over the years.
The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Mr Magnus Abe, disclosed this last Saturday, during the inspection of projects by government officials, traditional leaders, a team of Nigeria Governors' Forum Secretariat and other stakeholders, marking the two-year anniversary of the Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi's administartion as Rivers state governor.
The SSG said the state has engaged the services of Arcus & Gibb, a South African firm to partner with the government in developing a model city called Greater Port Harcourt City based on the old masterplan.
"Everything about the development of a new city is at advanced stage. We got a foreign company to come and look at Port Harcourt and see how it can be redesigned into a beautiful city. In the 1920s the city had a masterplan and as a pennuisula it was supposed to be beautiful but the plan has been bastardised and the city has gone hellwire," he said.
