Minna — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all seats in the councillorship by-elections conducted across Niger State at the weekend, the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission has announced (NSIEC).
A statement signed by Public Relation officer of NSIEC, Malam Mohammed Ali, yesterday in Minna showed that the PDP won the seven seats in the affected local governments.
According to the commission, PDP won four seats in Munya Local Government Area. It also defeated other contestants in Suleja, Magama and Shiroro local government areas.
The results showed that Ibrahim Musa (PDP) polled 5,355 votes to defeat his rival ANPP candidate Sanusi Tijani's who scored 289 votes in Bugama ward, Suleja local government area. In Nasko, Kagama council, Musa Usman (PDP) won the poll by 2,756 votes defeating Jamilu Jibrin of the ANPP who scored 204 votes.
Ahmed Kilishi (PDP) also defeated Peter Kaburu (ANPP) by polling 3,077 votes against 266 votes to clinch Gusoro seat in Shiroro council.
A female councillor also emerged in the election. Zainab Yahaya (PDP) defeated Yusufu Ahmed (AC) and Hassan Barde (ANPP) with 3,176 votes against their respective votes of 66 and 100 respectively for the Gini seat at the council.
Mr James Pada Tanko (PDP) polled 1,685 votes to defeat rival Yusuf M Kanu for the Fuka seat and Ahmed Barde Basa (PDP) also won the Kabula seat with 2,538 votes, followed by Ali James (ANPP) with a distant 40 votes.
Commenting on the result, Niger State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Aliyu Baba-Barau and the Director General, Media and Publicity Alhaji Bala Abdulkadir, in separate interviews, maintained that the victory had reaffirmed the people's support for the state government, which has remained committed to providing dividends of democracy to the people.
