Abuja — Governments at all levels in the country have been advised as a matter of urgency to invest more resources in Disaster Management, as the only solution for disaster free society in the country.
The team leader of Israel experts in disaster rescue, Mr. Amit Wainer gave the advice in Jos while training some staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on disaster recues.
He said people talk about NEMA but do not understand that disaster management requires lots of professionalism and huge investment.
"I guest Nigeria need to understand that disaster management is very professional issue they need to invest to put more effort also on those people and equip them with equipments they may need." He said.
The leader further said all the sixty participants who come from various government agencies have been engaged in training for providing rescue services, which include "First Aid, Rope usage, and water works, Helicopter and Collapse buildings."
In his speech, NEMA coordinating officer Basharu Ibrahim said the training would be on quarterly basis, saying the agency would engage the service of trainer trainee after the Israeli left, with local professionals.
Some of the participants express fear of uncertainty with regard to the future of the program in terms of providing them with enough and required equipments and its sustainability, which according to them are the two things that affect the government policy in a very negative ways.
