Botswana: BBA Dismiss Flames' Election Excuse

The Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) is expected to come down hard on Francistown side, Flames for failing to honour last weekend's league matches at the University of Botswana (UB) basketball courts.

Flames who are fifth on the log missed two games against the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and Cadets.

The two clubs were awarded walkovers and points. BBA public relations officer, Thulaganyo Jankey said they have requested the Francistown side to apologise and state why it failed to honour the fixtures.

Flames claim they did not honour the fixtures because of general elections last Friday.

But Jankey has said the association does not believe the club missed the games because of the general elections as Flames had confirmed their participation by Wednesday last week. He said the club will be punished according to the newly amended BBA constitution. He said Flames will be suspended from the league if they miss a third consecutive game.

The club is scheduled to play BDF V and Nico tomorrow in Fancistown. Jankey said even though Flames have an issue pending with BBA, there is no way they can prevent them from participating in the league this weekend. He said suspending Flames from playing will disrupt fixtures.

In other matches this weekend, log leaders, Police and second placed Spartans meet at the SSKB basketball courts in what should be a thrilling encounter. Cadets and Eagles face each other at the same venue while Falcons and BDF V lock horns in Francistown.
