The Council today adopted a common position imposing restrictive measures against the Republic of Guinea, following the violent crackdown by security forces on political demonstrators on 28 September 2009 and the subsequent violation of human rights
(14697/09).
The restrictive measures are made of an arms embargo and a visa-ban in order to prevent the entry into the EU territory to members of the National Council for Democracy and Development (NCDD) and individuals associated with them responsible for the violent repression or the political stalemate in the country.
The Council will keep the restrictive measures under constant review.
The common position will be published in the Official Journal of the EU on 28 October 2009.
