Liberia: NPP Joins Ranks With CDC - Pushes Doe-Sheriff for Senator

An executive of the former ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged his support to the Congress for Democratic Change(CDC) candidate in the Montserrado County ensuing by-election comes November 10, 2009.

Making the disclosure Monday, NPP Montserrado County Branch Neiley Daituoah said the party has decided to endorse the candidacy of CDC National Chairman in the by-election and said the political force of NPP will be brought to duly influence the outcome of the upcoming by-election in favor of Madam Geraldine Doe Sheriff.

He pointed out that his decision, along with associated commitment by the Montserrado County Branch of the NPP has been communicated to all NPP District Coordinators and Zonal Heads in Montserrado County for possible selection of Geraldine Doe-Sheriff to the senatorial position.

Mr. Daitouah said the party is making this decision as a result of the failure of the ruling Unity Party to live up to its campaign message that "papa will come home someday". He noted that Liberians need to inform the Unity Party Government to know that "we are catching you time." Mr. Daituoah said the vote of Liberians represent their future and must not be taken lightly.

The member of the Montserrado County Branch of the NPP said his decision is intended to remain the government that there are lot of Liberians who died for the democracy of the country to flourish for people of the land to be better off like every other country in the world.

Also speaking at the conference, NPP National Chairman for Youth Council Roland Duo endorsed the decision of the Montserrado County NPP Branch and urged all youths of the NPP to vote for CDC National Chairman in the Montserrado County Senatorial by-election.

Responding to the statement, CDC's senatorial candidate for the Montserrado county by-election, Mrs. Geraldine Doe Sheriff said the by-election is a protest against the ruling party for almost all of its officials allegedly involving in corruption in the country. Noting that "this protest is also against poverty and disease," and that CDC and NPP will go through the struggle for the emancipation of the Liberian people.

She also stated that the vote of the Liberian people for the by-election is a sign of opposition registration of their dissatisfaction over the manner in which the people of Liberia are being treated.
