The state visit to Qatar which His Excellency the president of the Republic, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh was supposed to make from 25-26th October, 2009 has been cancelled, a press release from the Office of the President signed by AM Sallah, secretary general, revealed.

The release reads:

The general public is hereby informed that the state visit to Qatar which His Excellency the President of the Republic Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh had to make from 25-26th October 2009 has been cancelled.

The cancellation was due to the information that a bird had entered engine No. 2 of the plane carrying His Excellency and his delegation. This information was disclosed one hour after the plane was airborne. It was therefore advisable for the pilot to return to Banjul International Airport.
