Accra — Despite the struggle in the hiplife industry to fashion out a genre of music promoting Ghanaian culture, there seems to be a looming controversy in the air waves and news prints over who is the 'Best Rapper Alive'. This controversy has been ignited by the new single release by Obrafuor, the 'Rap Sofo', which seeks to create one of the biggest rift in the Ghanaian music industry, and set to create division among some of the hiplife heavy weights in the industry. The controversial new single by Obrafuor, titled 'Kasiebo' and featuring a new rapper on the scene - Guru, has been enjoying lots of radio airplay, and is stirring controversies all over. The sound track, which was released to break the hiplife legend's inactivity over the past years, seems to have rubbed off some fellow hiplife artists and their fans the wrong way. The sound track sought to attack the lyrics of Obuor and Okyeame's 'The Game', which alleged that hiplife was dying. Obrafuor challenged the reason behind 'The Game', and answered the duo by saying "What I know is that music is dynamic, those who do not adjust to the changing trends would suffer." But the bit that seems to be causing the controversy is his answer to the question, whether hiplife is dead, is when he took a swipe at Obuor and Okyeame Kwame in their hit song, 'The Game' which suggested that hiplife was dying and need resurrection, perhaps by these two artists. He admonished that no one had the right of declaring hiplife dead, when he (Obrafour) has not said so, and there has not been any innovation in making the industry lucrative. Obrafour described hiplife to be very much alive and kicking asking the question, when did hiplife die without his knowledge? Obrafuor wittingly retorted, perhaps to Obuor - "how can we save hiplife with 'Atopa Jenjen?" It would be recollected that the first single released on Obuor's Fontomfrom album was 'The Game', which was later followed by 'Atopa Jenjen' Perhaps, the direct attack to Okyeame Kwame was when Obrafuor alluded in his song why anybody would be thumbing his chest as the 'best rapper alive'. To this, the current Ghana's Best Musician of the year 2008, Ghana's 'Rap Doctor' - Okyeame Kwame, to voice out his reaction. According to Okyeame Kwame, he believes Obrafour is trying to market his career comeback into the music industry after long break by riding on his back. In his estimation, he does not do music to insult fellow musicians or engage in a battle over who is the 'best rapper' in the game, but he would rather not comment on the issue. "Obuor and I do not intend to reply or do any sound track to reply to such a song", Rap Doctor added. He further went on to explain that 'The Game' was to inject a new revolution that was missing in the industry. According to Okyeame Kwame, 'The Game' was produced two years ago, and has given a new revival and recognition to the career of the duo. He further alluded that there is a rush of corporate organizations in the country offering musicians huge contracts to become ambassadors of their products and services. Meanwhile, Rap Doctor has been signed on by Coca Cola Ghana, Samini by MTN, Tic Tac by Melcom and GLO has signed up some artists like Asem, Papa Yankson, Pat Thomas, Wuta, Kwabena Kwabena and Ayigba Edem, to mention a few.
