Uganda: Farmers Want Govt to Provide Irrigation

27 October 2009

Kampala — THE Government should help farmers acquire simple, but effective irrigation technologies to fight hunger and famine.

Ssebatta Musisi, a leading farmer in Masaka district, who has adopted irrigation, says: "With irrigation, we can grow crops all year round."

Since the country has many water sources, coupled with regular rains, irrigation is a good possibility in Uganda.

Ssebatta has several underground tanks on his farm where he keeps water for irrigation.

Irrigation is the artificial application of water to the soil to assist in the growing crops in dry areas and during drought.
