Serrekunda — Readers may recall that in January this year, some Gamtel telephone subscribers, in interviews with this reporter, had complained that most of their telephone lines were not in good working order.
Recently, some subscribers have expressed concerns indicating that Gamtel officials now want to block their telephone lines and force them to use the Jamano lines.
In an interview with this reporter, Ebrima Drammeh of Bakau said his telephone line was faulty since 2005. He said "Gamtel staff came and checked my phone and went. Up till today nothing is been done about it."
In a recent radio announcement, Gamtel informed all its subscribers, especially those using the one way service, to either join the Noflai or Jamano or be paying a monthly fee of D150, even if the line is on one way. Most of the subscribers who spoke to this reporter expressed their disappointment with Gamtel.
"I think they are forcing us to use Jamano lines, most of our lines are not working and they don't care," says Alhagie Bojang, who also claimed that his line has been faulty for a long time now.
The Gamtel PRO, Mr. Amadou Touray, when told about the complaints of customers, denied that Gamtel is forcing any customer to join the Jamano service.
"It is a choice. We are not forcing anyone and I must say that the complaints we receive from customers now are very minimal compared to the previous years. We are doing our best to make sure our customers are satisfied," said Mr. Touray.
This reporter has also learnt that most lines within Serrekunda are not working for days now.
