Abuja — President Umaru Musa Yar'adua has nominated Mr. Samuel Ukura as the new Auditor-General of the federation and has requested the Senate to confirm him.
In a letter to the Senate President David Mark dated October 15, the President said he made the nomination on the recommendations of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
"In line with this constitutional requirement I consulted with the Federal Civil Service Commission whicha has recommended Mr. Samuel T. Ukura for appointment as the Auditor General for the Federation. I have accepted the recommendation and in accordance with the provisions of section 86 (1) of the 1999 constitution, I hereby present the nomination for confirmation by the Senate."
Ukura hails from Benue State and is a 1986 graduate of accounting.
The President has also forwarded a bill seeking to repeal the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act of 1995 and to enact the Nuclear Safety, Security and SafeGuards Act and re-establish the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority."
