HE was the white boy who speaks IsiZulu. His music tastes were more rap, hip-hop, R&B and kwaito than rock and heavy metal. He had the rhythm of a township tsotsi rather than the posh accent of the suburbs. Some people felt he tried too hard to be black. That he tried too hard to be politically correct and came across as fake rather than genuine.
Whatever you thought of South Africa's Quinn, there is no doubt that he was one of the most intense connivers and stirrers in the house. He wanted to win that money and it showed. He was a strong character but in the end not quite strong enough. The Namibian interviewed the 21-year-old, first-year media diploma student telephonically yesterday
Were you surprised to be evicted on Sunday?
Yeah, I was a bit surprised. The biggest surprise was the fact that Leonel put me up against such a strong pairing. His explanation was that he knew Kevin and Elizabeth were strong but thought we were also strong, so he knew one strong team had to leave. It was good strategy on his part but I though we were buddies, even though things between us had changed during the last couple of weeks. We lost trust in each other, so I was expecting it, but shocked as well.
What has the response been towards you so far?
Wow, it's been crazy! So much love and support. I am absolutely loving it.
What was the best moment in your BBA experience?
It's hard to choose just one but I think just getting into the house itself was the most definitive moment. Just getting in to the Big Brother house. That first night was awesome. Meeting everybody was so memorable.
And the worst?
I would say that was when Liz left. It was the worst experience, knowing that I was HoH and I could have saved her but circumstances didn't allow it. It was a really low experience for me.
Well, you did say that you would save her and put yourself up. Not that Africa blames you for saving yourself but why didn't you stick to your word?
I said to them before we nominated that if I would have gone up against Itai, I would have done it but the housemates changed their strategy by nominating Kristal and I, so I had to change mine too. If Liz was up against someone else, I would have swapped her in a heartbeat.
But then why put Liz and Kaone up against Edward and Emma, a proven strong pair?
Look, it was such a tough decision. You go into that diary room with your mind boggling. Not knowing what to do. There is not much time to consider all your options. I really thought that Liz and K1 were strong. I knew Eddie was strong but I didn't think Emma was that strong. I thought Liz would come back. It backfired. I know it did but hey it happened and hey, shit happens.
You and Mzamo shared a bit of a drunken snog. What happened there?
Well yeah, we were both very drunk. I think even the viewers could see that. I spoke to her the next day and explained that it wasn't going to happen again. I brushed her off and she seems to have gotten the message. She's moved on and is with Leonel now and I am happy with that.
When you found out that Mzamo and Leonel were together, you almost looked disappointed and disturbed. Was it a bit of a blow to your ego?
No, to be honest I was shocked more than anything else. Leonel is the last guy I thought she would hook up with. They are such opposites. He's reserved and quiet and his English is not very good. Mzamo is sociable and loud and her English is impeccable, so yeah - I was just really shocked.
Did you have a crush on any of the girls?
OK, let me be honest here. Jen from Mozambique and I got quite close in the last week before she left. I actually think her leaving was a blessing in disguise because if she had stayed longer, things may have happened between us. I have somebody I am seeing at home and I think Jen was also in some type of relationship so it was perhaps better for both of us.
Who did you think was the sexiest lady in the house?
For me, there were three ladies who were quite sexy. My comrade in arms, Kristal, is very sexy. I think Jen was really good looking and Elizabeth has a really nice body.
Someone commented on the BBA SMS strap that Emma seems to put on a kilogram by the hour. Did you notice that she was putting on weight?
Well, I noticed that she eats a lot. I know I ate a lot but I am a guy. Being a girl, I think she really eats a lot and it's all starting to show now.
Speaking of food. The food situation in the house started to become quite desperate. What was going through your mind when Leonel blew his nose over his plate?
That was one of the funniest moments in the house for me. I was really bored that night and I wanted to make an issue out of something, just to press people's buttons. So me going on about one fish finger that was stolen, I was just blowing it out of proportion to get to the other housemates. I think I really ruffled Leonel's feathers. Even though I was just joking about stealing his food. I think the whole episode was really unnecessary. I was shocked and disgusted but we made sure he threw it all away the next day. The plate too.
It seemed like you didn't like Eddie very much at first. What changed your perception about him?
To be honest, I always liked Eddie, even though I voted for him. I think at that stage I probably saw him as a threat but I always thought he was a cool guy. It was the guys in his alliance that I really didn't like, Yacob, Hannington and Phil. So once they were out, I had the chance to chill and laugh with Eddie. He is probably the housemate I miss the most at this point.
Who do you think will win?
I think it's going to be close between Eddie and Kevin. They are both strong characters. Since being out of the house, I've noticed that Mzamo is also quite a strong character. So I think it will probably be between the three of them. I would love to see both Mzamo and Eddie win the money.
What's next for Quinn?
I haven't really had a chance to sit down and think. I haven't had much time to myself so as soon as I do, I will figure out my options. But any opportunity that comes my way, I will take it with both hands. Before entering the house I was on radio as part of my media diploma so I would love to get into radio.
