MEMBERS of Parliament (MPs) from Luapula Province have said they will help explain the stance taken by their chiefs over second Republican president Frederick Chiluba's acquittal.
Meanwhile, Dr Chiluba's son, Mikoyan yesterday described statements attributed to his father and Vice-President George Kunda by late president Levy Mwanawasa's eldest son, Patrick Mwanawasa as careless and irresponsible.
The MPs yesterday said they would heed to the directive and vigourously explain to their electorate in their respective constituencies what the resolution by the Luapula Royal Foundation (LRF) entailed.
The MPs include the Patriotic Front's Joseph Kasongo for Bangweulu, Besa Chimbaka from Bahati and Benard Chisha for Pambashe and the MMD MPs Katele Kalumba for Chiengi, John Chinyanta for Mambilima and Mwansa Mbulakulima for Chembe Constituency.
On Monday, LRF spokesperson Chief Chisunka pledged total support for President Rupiah Banda for his mature leadership and described as immoral the blame being heaped on the president for the acquittal of Dr Chiluba.
PF leader Michael Sata who, during the 2006 campaigns promised to drop Dr Chiluba's charges if elected president, said yesterday he did not know the facts at that time because he had not yet been shown the case record by the late president Mwanawasa.
"I have said it and I am still saying that I said those words during the campaign because I did not know the facts about Dr Chiluba until on May 14, 2008 when the late president showed me the document containing the facts when we met at State House," Mr Sata said.
But Dr Chisha said Mr Sata was inconsistent and thus should not be trusted.
He said the harassment of the former head of State by some people even after the Judicial system had cleared him, were unfortunate.
Mr Kasongo said Luapula Province would always move as one just like it had done before.
Mr Chimbaka said the people of Luapula Province respected their chiefs and that once given a directive, they were bound to follow.
Dr Kalumba said for the chiefs to reach the extent they had reached meant that they had analysed the situation over the happenings in the country.
Chembe Constituency MP, Mwansa Mbulakulima said he was happy that the chiefs had spoken in that manner and that their instruction to the MPs was noble.
And Mikoyan said Patrick's remarks were inappropriate and irresponsible for a child against someone who was literally his father.
He was reacting to Mr Mwanawasa's comment in Monday's The Post Newspaper, which quoted him as having said Dr Chiluba was a spent force in active politics and his contribution to the MMD was destructive rather than constructive.
The late president's son was also quoted as having said that Mr Kunda was disrespectful of the late head of State's legacy.
