Kampala — A Belgian man charged with involvement in pornographic activities has been remanded to Gulu Prison. Gulu chief magistrate Joseph Omodo Nyanga remanded Peter Kets, 39, after he was charged with indecent practices with Ugandan women.

The state prosecutor, Dickens Ogwang, told court that Kets was taking photographs of naked females in his room at Sunset Hotel, Gulu where he was lodging.

The northern regional Police spokesperson, Johnson Kilama, said on Monday the Police got concerned after reports that many women were entering Ket's room.

He said when Police went to the room they took Kets' digital camera on which they found many nude pictures. He was arrested on Saturday.

Some of the pictures were printed by the Police to be presented in court as exhibits.

Kilama said Kets' camera and passport were impounded.

The accused denied the offence and his lawyer, Jovani Lamunu asked court to give him bail since he was a first-time offender and was a foreigner.

Kets was denied bail and sent to prison until October 30, when his case will be heard.

Opposing the bail application, Ogwang said experience had shown that most foreigners, when granted bail, do not report back to court. Kets faces up to seven years in jail if found guilty.
