Namibia: Kapia Rallies Narraville Members

Walvis Bay — Swapo Party Member of Parliament-in-waiting, and former Youth League Secretary General, Paulus Kapia, is calling on all the party's leaders at section, branch and district levels to prepare themselves for voter education when the mock ballot paper is ready.

Kapia addressed the party's first rally in Narraville on Saturday. The rally started off with a march from the Kuisebmond fire station to Woermann Brock supermarket in Narraville. Kapia explained the party's aims, objectives, political programme, as well as the 2009 election manifesto. He also emphasised unity in diversity.

Kapia called on all the party members to prepare themselves and to vote 'correctly' during the upcoming elections.

"I request all Swapo members to be home from 16h00 and 18h00 on November 26 to prepare themselves come 27 November so they queue up as early as needed. When they go in the ballot booth, they must ask God to help them not to betray the heroic deeds of Namibians," he said.

He warned opposition parties against misleading people about voting symbols.

"They are saying people must put the cross where you don't want to vote and the right mark where you want to vote for your party. That is a spoilt ballot. Political parties should be serious and conduct voter education in a correct manner. We don't want confusion in this country and we cannot afford to play around and create confusion when it comes to elections," said Kapia.

He also requested all Swapo Party members to attend voter education sessions so that they refresh themselves and rehearse, whether they have voted before or are voting for the first time. He also warned the police to conduct themselves in a professional manner and not be used, a reference to an earlier incident where a police officer removed a Swapo flag from a tree in the Khomas Region.

"That thing should not happen and they (police) must know they are employed by the Swapo Party government," he added.

He also urged the born-frees to vote properly, this being for the Swapo Party. More than 400 Swapo Party members attended the rally.

Narraville Branch Coordinator, Derick Klassen, issued six new members who had just joined the Party with membership cards.
