As the momentum for the race to the senate is taking explosive trend, Liberians from the large political landscape are speaking out their guts, pledging their supports and even making prophetic declarations as to who will win the by-elections. There are 10 candidates, but one of them will certainly come out victorious, and who that person is, is a mere guess.
But a renowned Liberian politician, Dr. Togba-Nah Tipoteh has thrown out, saying that University of Liberia Economics Professor, Wilson Tarpeh will be the one. As The Analyst picks up the story, the question is, from whence cometh his conviction.
Dr. Togba-Nah Tipoteh, Standard-bearer of the Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APD) and 2005 Presidential Aspirant Candidate has declared that Professor Wilson Tarpeh of the APD will win the race to the Senate in the up-coming senatorial By-elections.
He said, the APD candidate will clench victory in the elections because amongst the rest of the candidates, he is the best person who has shown enormous interest in the welfare of the poor people of Liberia. Speaking to journalists who wanted to know how he looked at the APD candidate's chances in the senatorial race, Dr. Tipoteh, who then referred to as "The Only Man On The Ground," a title which stemmed from his commitment to remaining in Liberia during the course of the war, said, Prof. Tarpeh will win the race because he has the best record among all of the candidates in the senatorial race for working in the interest of poor people in Liberia.
His position is not because candidate Tarpeh is a member of the APD of which he (Dr. Tipoteh) is a former standard-bearer, but because Prof. Tarpeh's work has been particularly visible with the youth, women, the disabled and the elderly, believing in the fact that Liberians reward those who make meaningful impacts in their lives and to their community.
He believed that voters will go to the polls and vote for people they believe in, whether money or not, those who are capacitating the young people of Liberia to give better and brighter future, and that Candidate Tarpeh happens to be in the vanguard of the crusade of transforming Liberia positively.
When Dr. Tipoteh was confronted with the issue of the Unity Party's campaign impression that money will win the senatorial race for the ruling party's candidate, he suddenly disabused the minds of holders of the belief, saying that money is no longer the main motivation for voting in Liberia and therefore the candidate with the most money will not win the senatorial race.
Dr. Tipoteh, presidential candidate in past elections said , the voters followed money to get Unity Party into power, and as the suffering of the poor people is worsening, the people now know better not to allow money to determine the way they vote. "The eyes of the people are now shining", said Dr. Tipoteh, "and they are looking at the practical record of the candidates to tell them how to vote."
"The candidate with the best record in the interest of the poor people will win. That is why Prof. Tarpeh will win". Impressing the journalists, Dr. Tipoteh added that money will not win because there is no candidate called money.
Dr. Tipoteh concluded his exchange with journalists by saying that he is not leaving the campaign a chance becaue he is leading thousands of campaigners, knocking on doors, walking on the streets and through the pathways as well as getting into market places to rally people to vote for Candidate Tarpeh.
Already, Dr. Tipoteh said, the masses are pouring out their support for Candidate Tarpeh, but this support is bound to increase in the days ahead because he will be working with thousands of volunteers to push the campaigning to the very last minute to make sure that Prof. Tarpeh is elected as the next senator in the Liberian Senate.
Not side-brushing Dr. Tipoteh's expression of faith and conviction that his APD candidate, Prof. Wilson Tarpeh will come out victorious in the pending by-elections, political commentators argued that the statement is not new to electioneering that any candidates or supporters believe that they will win.
All of the ten candidates in the race have declared that they will win the elections, but it is only God, being omnipotent and omnipresent, knows who the winner is, analysts said. But there are others who argued predictions are things that are done, and at times, they become true, so in the case of Dr. Tipoteh's declaration, observers said, there is a possibility that it comes to reality and Prof. Tarpeh is crowned winner of the elections.
