A source at the Ministry of Finance has disclosed to the Analyst that the Ministry has abruptly withdrawn the special allowances (SP) which was used as supplementary for low-income earners by the government.

According to the source, the workers have been receiving their SP for several years. This, as our source indicated, has been one of the ways in which low income earners have been catering to their families' wellbeing.

The source further explained that it was only the low income earners who have been affected by this new policy, because as the source claims, their bosses and cohorts are still receiving SP. However, one of the affected workers at the revenue section who claimed anonymity confirmed the unpleasant behavior of his department. "Our department is greatly affected. How do they expect us to pay our children school fees with this little salary?" he puzzled.

According to him, the Ministry has been coming out with too many policies since the Unity Party (UP) led government took seat. "I have been working with this Ministry for many years, but this administration has blocked all of the areas where we used to get assistance, adding that If they don't want for us to work anymore, we should be informed because we are tired of this continues embarrassment." he vented out his anger.

The anonymous source claimed that most of his colleagues are threatening to resign if the Ministry refuses to reinstitute their special allowances. "It will be better for me to return to my money changing business than to be frustrated by someone's personal interest." the aggrieved employee lambasted. However, the vocal speaker claimed that the Ministry has decided to take such action which he said, is a way of controlling government's expenditure.

Besides, his decision to resigned, the worried Finance employee appealed to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to intervene in the matter at the Ministry of Finance so as to help them deal with the problems of school fees, family welfare and other burning issues that salaries alone can not handle.
