Kigali — THE long awaited Fifa World Cup trophy has reached Sao Tome and Principle.

After a two-day stop over in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the golden 6.5kg trophy arrives in the Sao Tome and Principe Islands today after traversing Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt and Mali among other African nations.

Sao Tome is the 25th country on the continent that has had a chance to host the world's most coveted trophy.

The Trophy began its world tour from the Fifa Headquarters in Zurich on September 21 before moving to Cairo three days later. It's expected to wind up its tour in South Africa, the 2010 hosts.

Rwanda awaits its turn in anticipation on November 9, when the trophy is expected to land in Kigali.
