Rwanda: APR Athletes Start Rendezvous National Preps

Kigali — APR athletes have embarked on serious training as they seek to go a notch better at this year's Rendezvous National.

The team coach Thadee Niyonzima said that they are aspiring to improve on their 2008 performance were they finished second behind the students.

Niyonzima is counting on sprint ace Saidi Nsanzabera and long distance athlete Eric Sebahire. Last year, Nsanzabera swept the 200m while finishing second in the 100m.

Sebahire on the other hand claimed a double after victories in the 5000km (14:09) and 10km (29:15) races. "We have started training and hope to improve on last year's performance. I also expect our Europe-based athletes like Dieudonne Disi, Sylvain Rukundo and Jelvain Hakizimana to run in the event," Niyonzima added.

Competitive categories in the December event will range from 100m,200m,400m,800m,1000m,5000m,10000m, 5Km,10Km, relays, High jump, short jump, javelin, discus, short put, and steeple chase.
