Cape Town — Councillors were unanimous yesterday in their support of Cape Town Stadium as the name for the new facility being built for the World Cup, but there was some confusion about its Xhosa equivalent.
It was first suggested that the stadium would be Ikapa Stadium, but then it was said that eStadium saseKapa would be more accurate.
City director of legal services Lungelo Mbandazayo ended the debate by calling for the stadium to be Inkundla Yezemidlalo Yasekapa.
The selection of the name proved to be less of a headache for the panel that considered 302 proposals. Pieter Cronje, city 2010 spokesperson, said Cape Town Stadium got the most votes.
