Nigeria: Abuja Water Treatment Plants For Commissioning May 2010

Abuja — The Federal Government will by May 2010 commission the Phases Three & Four Multi-Billion-Naira Water Treatment Plants being constructed at the Lower Usuma Dam, Abuja.

The FCT Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero who made this disclosure after inspection of the project site on Tuesday reiterated that his constant visit to the site shows the importance the government attaches to the project.

The Minister restated that the whole idea is to be able to deliver portable water to all residents of Abuja including the satellite towns as earlier promised in his Millennium Park Declaration to usher in the year 2009.

Senator Aliero revealed that the Phase three is 95 per cent complete while the Phase four is 65 per cent complete which is expected to be handed over to the government by the contractors by November 2009 and 1st Quarter of 2010 respectively.

He further disclosed that the FCT Administration has received assurances from the manufacturers and suppliers of the pipes that would connect the plants to tanks 1 and 6 respectively.
