Kampala — THE 10km wheelchair event in the 6th edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon will run a week earlier than the main event.
MTN marketing and promotions manager Aggrey Kagonyera yesterday confirmed that the race will now take place on November 15.
Other events of the marathon will be held on November 22.
"We have already marked the route and we will release it to them later," Kagonyera explained.
"We also want to avoid past incidents where competitors were being given a push on the route. It is not fair for competition."
In past events, wheelchair competitors largely depended on help from other runners in the fight for the top prizes.
The top three finishers in the men's and women's events get cash prizes.
"This time, we are going to be strict and wheelchair competitors will be supervised throughout the race," Kagonyera added.
"The problem is that we have not been able to supervise them before as there are so many people competing."
In international marathons, subsidiary events take place before the main show.
This year's marathon will also have 10km and 21km races for men and women.
