Zambia: Kasama MMD Youths Want Chairperson Expelled

29 October 2009

MMD Youths in Kasama have called for the expulsion of Northern Province youth chairperson, Danny Chisanga for blaming the provincial chairperson, Griever Sikasote for the loss of the Kasama by-election.

Kasama District youth chairperson, Bernard Mubanga said it was gross indiscipline for Mr Chisanga to blame the loss of the election on Mr Sikasote when the youth leader had failed the MMD in Northern Province.

Mr Mubanga said in a statement yesterday that Mr Sikasote worked tirelessly during the run-up to the by-election as Mr Mubanga was busy scheming ways to destabilise the party.

"Us the MMD youths of Kasama strongly appeal to the higher authorities of our party to immediately expel Danny Chisanga from the party as he is one of the few individuals trying to destabilise our strong party," he said.

Meanwhile, Kasama Central Constituency MMD chairperson, Nathan Ilunga said instead of requesting Mr Sikasote to resign, Mr Chisanga should instead quit the party.

Mr Ilunga said the provincial chairperson was committed to the party and its affairs, saying he had managed to contribute to the party's well-being even in the absence of party funds.

"Our provincial youth chairperson seems to be an agent for some unknown forces because he was there during the MMD Kasama Central nominations and was not there during the vice-president's campaigns and only joined the team six days before the election," he said.

He said it was expected of every serious party provincial youth chairperson to be in the forefront mobilising support for such important party functions instead of disappearing to what he called unknown places.

He urged Mr Chisanga to state whether he was a member of the MMD or not, saying it was embarrassing to see that Mpika District where he lived was the weakest with no MMD structures.

On Thursday last week, Mr Chisanga was quoted as having blamed the party's recent loss in the Kasama Central Constituency on Mr Sikasote.
