A convention was signed between the University of Yaounde 1 and six foreign universities yesterday in Yaounde.
A research unit for Applied Mathematics and Computer Sciences, UMMISCO, has been created in the University of Yaounde. This was during a convention signed between the University of Yoaunde 1 and six foreign universities in the campus of the university of Yaounde 1 yesterday. The different universities are from France, Morocco, Senegal, and Vietnam. The convention is the fruit of excellent relations between the University of Yoaunde 1 and the Research Institute for Development.
Speaking during the occasion, the Rector of the university of Yaounde 1, Oumarou Bouba said the newly created unit for applied mathematics UMMISCO is a key tool for finding solutions to developmental challenges in Cameroon. The coordinator of the UMMISCO project at the university, Professor Maurice Tcheunte, said the research unit will permit the university to benefit from collaboration from their partners, enable the university benefit from open tenders for research projects for instance the European Union, promote development research with the use of modern tools in techniques and offer scholarships to the best students.
He explained that this year, the University of Yaounde 1 has obtained support from IRD which has enabled the institution to equip research laboratories, purchase books and send some students of research to partner institutions. The convention was signed by the Rector of the University of Yaounde 1 and the Director of the Research Institute for Development-Cameroon (IRD) Jean Francois Girard.
