Reports gathered by the Analyst speak of heart men activity on the Bushrod Island, leaving many community residents in fear. The Analyst newspaper over the weekend gathered cogent information that a strange man believed to be in his late 40s attempted to kidnap a five year old little boy whose name was not disclosed.
According to the report, the little boy reportedly went to the River Side in a place called "JARKEH" in Clara town, Bushrod Island to ease himself when the man attempted to kidnap him, but was later saved by an unidentified man who was inside the rest room watching the attempted kidnapping.
The report also indicated that the Hartman acted as if he wanted to send the little boy to buy candy, while a man who was in the rest room, sat and watched the entire scenario from a distance. According to the eye witness, he saw the Hartman instructing the little boy to go and buy candy and at the same time, trying to rob his hands on the boy's mouth when he intervened. He claimed that the boy conveyed to the Hartman that his mother had instructed him not to go anywhere when ever someone strange call him to offer him with money, candy or biscuit.
Quizzed as to while he wanted to kidnap the little boy, the report added, the man responded that he was only trying to send the little boy to buy candy and not to kidnap him as was been speculated. Whether or not this is true, what remains to be made cleared is for the man to explain why he wanted to forcibly take the little boy. When the group gathered to have a glance at the alleged Hartman, in the midst of the confusion, the story continues, the man reportedly disappeared from the scene and fled for an unknown destination.
"Once again this evil practice has surfaced in our communities and it is making us scare. We are living in fear continuously from these blood thirsty individuals, with all the killings they have done in this country, they are still not tired. We need to mobilized ourselves against these people so that our children lives can be saved because if we want to depend on government, they will never act" an angry resident decried.
It can be recalled that Hartman activity is not a strange phenomenon in the Liberian landscape, ranging from the days of former president William V.S. Tubman administration when this practice reached its highest peak, and up to present, it is still eating the fabrics of a country that has gone through so much pains and bloodshed and needs total healing other than ritual killings.
But whether or not the 'would be Hartman activity' will be curtailed or not, and given that it is so entrenched in our society, it will only be a good thing for mothers to keep the little ones close to their chests.
