Nigeria: Nigerian Farmers, Researchers Set for America Agro Expo

29 October 2009

A summit that will bring together diverse stakeholders in the agricultural industry is about to take place in the United States. The programme, which is the 2010 edition of AG CONNECT Expo, is scheduled to hold at the Orange County Convention Centre, Orlando, Florida in January next year.

The Expo is expected to bring together experts in the agricultural industry to share experiences and skills in latest equipment, technology, ideas and innovations of all sectors in the agricultural industry. Nigerian Professionals, researchers, policy makers, exporters and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector are expected to attend.

A statement released by Mrs. Marcella Iyitor, the chief executive of Niche PR, stressed that the event is very timely for Nigerian delegates as the expo would serve as the tonic needed to revitalise the agricultural sector. She noted that since agriculture is a global business and Nigeria is blessed with wide expanse of land for mechanised agriculture, we need to take the full advantage and help our economy so that we will not only be exporting crude oil but also agricultural products which, if well exploited, could be the highest source of revenue for Nigeria.

Iyitor pointed out that, "already, several relevant associations and institutions have been invited to participate, including Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), federal and state Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development, and key parastatals, all associations of farmers, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, equipment leasing companies and small scale enterprises in the agricultural sector."

Iyitor observed that this is a great opportunity for the Nigerian agriculture sector to share resources with their American counterparts in the areas of growth of crops, technology advancement in mechanised agriculture.

She stated further that the expo will be a good networking platform with the international community, especially those that want to import agricultural equipment and export agricultural produce and, more importantly, for learning relevant technologies for mechanised agriculture.
