As part of Civil Military Coordination Programme of Nigerian Signal Unit, UNMIL, (NISIG 10), The Commanding Officer, Lt Col GS Abdullahi recently led a team of instructors in computer appreciation to Amadiyyah Elementary and Junior High School in Monrovia to impact computer knowledge to the students.
According to a press release, the team which was warmly received by the principal, Staff and Students thoroughly grilled the students in theoretical lessons after which they also introduced them to the different hardware components of computer. The students were also taught installation, connection and booting during the practical session.
Col Abdullahi disclosed that their finding reveal that about 90% of the students never had opportunity of having a feel of a computer system before, thus his visit with his team to the school was highly appreciated by both staff and students.
Though the target audience was the students, the teachers also participated in the lectures because some of them were not computer literate.
According to the commanding officer's to contribution to the development and capacity building of the school, besides, giving the school the binded copies of the computer lecture notes as reference materials for the teachers, 3 Ceiling fans were also donated . Col Abdullahi who encouraged them to constantly acquaint themselves with recent development and computer knowledge also stressed that computer training in high schools has become a basic tool in moulding students for greater task in the society.
He further disclosed that he is poised to continue to engage his team on similar outings in line with UNMIL directives of Civil Military Coordination. It would be recalled that NISIG 10 was launched into the mission barely one month ago and its tracts some performance so far has been tremendous, the release concluded.
