Nigeria: Fire Guts Part of MMA2

Abuja — The Murtala Mohammed Airport Two (MMA2) was yesterday thrown into confusion as part of the terminal building was consumed by fire.

Daily Trust gathered that the inferno, which started at 6:30 am, began from the engineering department of one of the airlines and all efforts to put it off failed. Electrical fault from the building was however blamed.

Before the arrival of the fire fighters, some aircraft parts of the airline were consumed by the fire. About two hours later, the fire fighters eventually put off the blaze.

All the airlines operating from MMA2 have their engineering departments at the terminal where aircraft equipment are kept.

A close source of the airline who spoke in condition of anonymity said that the management had before now informed the terminal managers of the impending danger but, the terminal operators promised to rectify the fault, which was not done until the incident.

The source said it was not the first time such incident would be happening at the terminal but none had been so devastating. He warned that if care was not taken, the whole building might be razed as some of the electrical appliances are haphazardly done.
