Lafia — Nasarawa State governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma is banking on the water scheme which project in six local government areas of the state is still ongoing, to end the people's perennial water crisis.
The governor's Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Ibrahim Addra who spoke to Daily Trust, yesterday, said the project which contract was awarded last year to provide Doma, Keana, Nasarawa Eggon and Lafia with potable water as well as the designing of Nasarawa town water works, is close to the governor's heart.
He acknowledged the water crisis facing these areas; saying to end the attendant hardship on the people, the project was embarked upon.
Addra said the governor has paid repeated inspection visits to the sites to ensure strict compliance to contract specification, just as he disclosed that soon, the project will be due for commissioning.
Already, the commissioner in charge of the Water Resources ministry, Abdullahi Oga disclosed earlier that work on the Doma water supply scheme has been completed, saying it is done according to specification.
The commissioner said the people of the town are already enjoying the potable water.
The rehabilitation of the Doma water works was among contracts awarded late last year. Others were Keana, Nasarawa Eggon, Lafia and the designing of the Nasarawa town water works. The Doma water supply scheme which was commissioned in 1995, supplies water to only a limited parts of the town due to low capacity utilization of the plant and inadequate distribution network.
