EgyptAir Tourism, otherwise known as "Karnak," recently bagged the prestigious Africa Travel Award as the Best Tour Operator in Africa. The Award was presented to the airline during the 5th Akwaaba African Travel Market Exhibition organised by Africa Travel Quarterly (ATQ) Magazine, which held at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island.
Special Guest of Honour at the Awards was Sir Dawda Jawara, former President of The Gambia. Also present were Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and his wife; the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe who also doubled as the Country Host for the awards as well as Mr. Girma Wake, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.
Others present were Chike Ogeah Esq., MD, Skypower Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL); Mrs. Fatima Garbati, GM, Consumer Protection Department, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); and Mrs. Fatou Beyai Raji of The Gambia Tourism Authority among a host of other eminent industry dignitaries from around Nigeria, the West Coast and various parts of the globe.
Receiving the award on behalf of the company, Mr. Mohammed A. Hameed Metwally, Karnak's Tourism Manager in Cairo said: "I am overwhelmed by this award. It is an expression of confidence by our customers on the service we provide and it will motivate us to work harder to meet even greater expectations."
Sharing in the success of the company during the presentation a high delegation of the company was on hand to applaud the achievement. They include Mr. Magdy Zakhary, GM, EgyptAir in Lagos; Mr. Rasaq Ahmed, Accountant and Mrs. Uyi Okomhanru, Personal Assistant to the General Manager.
Ikechi Uko, Publisher of ATQ Magazine and Coordinator of the Awards said EgyptAir was chosen by travellers, members of the public and readers of the magazine through an independent voting process. Akwaaba African Tourism Market and Awards is the only Travel Exhibition event in West Africa and is endorsed by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
