Zambia: MMD Bans North Youth Leader

THE MMD in Northern Province has suspended its provincial youth chairperson, Danny Chisanga for three months for misconduct contrary to the party constitution.

The party has also given Mr Chisanga seven days to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

Provincial secretary, Sebio Mukuka said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Chisanga had been charged with insubordination to a senior party organ or official and conduct likely to bring the name of the party into contempt, ridicule or disrepute.

Other charges were giving false information to a party organ or official with intent to deceive or mislead others, contravention of the provision of the party Constitution, regulations, rules, order or decisions.

Mr Chisanga is also charged with disobedience to orders, directives or instructions of any party organ or official duly authorised to do so.

"The above offences are very serious and as such, attract severe penalties. And be reminded that you were warned earlier for holding dark corner meetings at MAFF Site in Mpika at night with an opposition leader," Mr Mukuka said.

Mr Mukuka said in the interim, Mr Chisanga had been put on a three-month suspension pending a final determination of his case by the full provincial executive committee.

The Post Newspaper of October 22, 2009 carried an article attributed to Mr Chisanga headlined "Northern Province MMD youth blames loss on Sikasote', he said.

In addition, Mr Mukuka said Mr Chisanga was ordered not to participate in the Kasama Central Constituency bye-elections campaigns by the campaign steering committee chaired by campaign manager Charles Shawa..

He said Mr Chisanga failed to participate on the MMD nomination activities, or be part of the campaign teams.
