To mark its Seventh Anniversary, Covenant University, Ota, presented 25 computer systems with printers, internet connectivity and other back up facilities with one year anti-virus license, to two secondary schools as part of Community Development Impact Initiative Outreach to community schools in Ota; recently.

The two beneficiaries are Iganmode Secondary School, Ota, which received 15 sets and Iju Ebiye High School, Iju, that got 10.The vice chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Aize Obayan, led the team to the schools for the presentation of the ICT equipments.

Others in the team were the Registrar, Dr. Daniel Rotimi, deans and deputy deans of all the colleges in the university, directors of finance, administration and other top management staff.

Rotimi, in his opening remarks at the presentation ceremonies said, "this is Covenant University that has come to visit you, at our seventh year", adding, "God has given us the privilege of his mandate to raise a new generation of leaders."He recalled that Covenant University is the best ICT-driven University in Nigeria and also won the lawrel in 2009.

"No wonder why we are into ICT empowerment. At the College of postgraduate studies, we train great leaders who will also train other leaders."

The Community Development Impact Initiative Outreach to Community Schools in Ota is a pilot Computer Empowerment/presentation of computer systems which involve the training of the students in these secondary schools to acquire ICT skills and computer knowledge.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Obayan, said, the University opened its gate on 21st October, 2002 for the first time, and that the journey which started at that time has turned seven years.She noted the incredible achievements of Iganmode Secondary School in mathematics and science over the years.

"In the world today, ICT holds all the levels of development and one of the variables that service the schools. But in most other schools, ICT is not even known. Some graduates don't know about ICT. Capacity building is a concept we want identified in schools in the community."She pointed out that it is not presentation of computers that matters, but ICT empowerment, saying, "the three functions of a university are teaching, research and community development."

Delivery notes of all the items presented to the schools were signed by the vice chancellor and the principals while there was also a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the maintenance of the systems, the power to run the ICT efficiently and effectively.

All the principals of the secondary schools - junior and senior levels expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Covenant University for this kind gesture.
