With less than three weeks to go, over 2,000 free tickets have already been alloted for the World Cup trophy tour in Uganda. The trophy arrives in Kampala on November 14 and will be displayed for public viewing a day later at Lugogo Cricket oval. Tour sponsors Coca-cola have for the past one week been giving out tickets and about 4,000 are still up for grabs.
"Soccer fans should know that these tickets are not for sale. We want every person interested in seeing the trophy from whichever part of the country to get an equal chance," Coca-Cola East and Central Africa brand manager (Uganda) Maggie Kigozi said in an interview early this week. Tickets are being given out in conjunction with selected radio stations, among them KFM.
"To get a ticket, one has to call in their favourite radio station and TV," she said. On its tour of North and West Africa, the trophy created lots of excitement with thousands of people flocking streets to have a glance.
Although no one is allowed to touch the trophy apart from the Head of State, Kigozi has promised Ugandans a chance for close-up photo shoots with the trophy.
