Serrekunda — After their maiden flight to the Gambia on Sunday 25th October, the home Manager of Royal Air Maroc Aisa Alberough held a press briefing at the Coco Ocean Resort and spa on Monday 26th October 2009 at 19:00hours.

Talking to journalists during the briefing, Mr. Alberough asserted that With an experience of over 50 years, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has built a solid reputation of professionalism and expertise in providing air transportation for passengers and freight in an efficient, reliable and superlative manner. Since 1957, he said Royal Air Maroc has been guided by an abiding commitment to quality, safety and comfort.

As a national company of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Manager said, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is convinced of its role as an agent of national and international development. It therefore seeks to, with its global footprint and international image; actively contribute to economic development of all countries where it operates.

Mr. Alberough asserted that Royal Air Maroc has established the fundamentals of a large national group oriented towards satisfying the expectations of its customers and partners and strongly associated with economic growth and industrial development of Morocco. The Group he said is now present across 12 subsidiaries in the airline industry, hospitality and related services to air transport.

As a major player in the hospitality sector with some considerable investment in the hotel sector, Mr Alberough said, the Royal Air Maroc Group has also become an important partner of reference for the largest operators in the areas of air transport, tourism and aviation industry.

He went on to inform the press that Royal Air Maroc is also actively involved in cargo transport, through the employment of an advanced logistics method which allows the company to deliver nearly 30,000 tonnes of cargo to or from some forty countries in Africa, North America, Europe and the Middle East each year.

Mr Alberough asserted that over the years, Royal Air Maroc has established a network of over 70 destinations including the great capitals of Europe, North America, Africa, North Africa and Middle East. Apart from its numerous local destinations inside Morocco he said, Royal Air Maroc flies to France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, England and Turkey in Europe; United States and Canada in North America; Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Lebanon in the Middle East; Tunisia, Algeria, Libya and Mauritania in North Africa and Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Niger, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Congo Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and now The Gambia in sub-Saharan Africa.

In addition to its own network, he went on to say, Royal Air Maroc serves other destinations in code share agreement with 10 airline partners, including: Iberia, Delta Airlines, Emirates and Etihad Airways. Mr. Alberough went on to say that from its humble beginnings, Royal Air Maroc currently has 54 aircrafts while five years ago in 2004, the fleet was just 23.

Behind this rapid growth and expansion he said is Royal Air Maroc's policy of continuous investment in new aircraft as part of a plan for modernization and fleet expansion. Since 2006, he went on to say that the company has an acquisition rate of two to three new generation planes each year, and this has helped support the development of its international network.

Through this effort he said, the company now has a young and efficient fleet, with an average aircraft age of less than 7 years, a figure well below the world average of over 11 years.

With this quality of fleet, he said, Royal Air Maroc provides comfort to customers, ensures lower operating costs and improving environmental performance of the fleet of the company.

Alongside the development of medium-haul fleet and to support its growth strategy of long-haul network, the manager said, Royal Air Maroc this year launched a development plan for its long haul fleet with the order for two aircraft B767-300-ER. The arrival of these two aircrafts he said will augment Royal Air Maroc's fleet and earn it a long-haul fleet of ten aircraft by 2012.

Mr Alberough said that Royal Air Maroc is also on course to become one of the first companies to use the Boeing 787 Dreamliners when it arrives.

Mr Alberough asserted that the activity of the Royal Air Maroc is organized around the Mohamed V International Airport in Casablanca which operates as the company's hub for connecting traffic flows between Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America.

The Home Manager of Royal Air Maroc concluded by saying that Royal Air Maroc also has a training college with an international reputation called the RAM Academy, which has successfully trained more than 4,000 aviation professionals according to the standards of major airlines. Students are trained into pilots, cabin crew, aircraft maintenance technicians and as airline sales and ticketing staff.
