Harare — THE Zimbabwe Kickboxing Association have begun selecting the team that will represent the nation at the World Championships scheduled for November 25 to 29 in Italy.

Zimbabwe is set to send a team of five fighters and so far two representatives have been named.

They are the association's president Tony Kamangira and All-Africa Games medallist Brighton Tangata.

Kamangira is set to battle it out in the veterans' category.

The veterans' category was introduced this year by the international board, World Association of Kickboxing Organisations, and it will cater for veteran fighters between the age of 40 and 50 years

Kamangira, who is a seventh-dan black belt holder, said their preparations were on track and the three remaining fighters will be selected during the national championships set for November 7.

"Preparations are at an advanced stage and I am confident we will make a big impact at the championships," said Kamangira.

"We have a lot of talented fighters and we have the potential to do well."

Kamangira said they were banking on their experience from the All-Africa Games and other international tournaments to help them stand the heat at the world championships.

"We have participated in some big tournaments and I believe we will be able to achieve greatness at the tournament," said Kamangira.

"We are going there to show that as Zimbabweans we have the talent and skill."

Kamangira also revealed that he will launch his book, Tokado, which focuses on all martial arts styles.

"I started writing this book in 1998 when I was training and doing some research on martial arts styles.

"I have included judo, karate, wrestling and taekwondo, among others, and I hope it will contribute in the development of martial arts," said Kamangira.
