Gusau — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zamfara State chapter, has solicited the support and cooperation of the media in the party's resolve to sustain and consolidate on its achievements and successes in the state.
Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha, who made the plea at an interactive session with members of the state Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said the media remains the veritable tool required in building a strong and viable society.
Mallaha urged the journalists to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties, saying they are indispensable allies needed for the development of any society.
He commended the journalists for their commitment and adherence to the ethics of their profession, and called on them to continue to exhibit high sense of patriotism in carrying out their assignments.
He assured that the PDP-led administration of Governor Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi would continue to provide the people of the state with purposeful leadership in order to fulfil its electoral promises.
In his remarks, Secretary of the party, Malam Musa Zubairu charged journalists to uphold all ideals that uplift democratic governance at all levels in the country.
"Journalists, as the fourth estate of the realm have major role to play in fostering unity and progress in the country. Journalists need to form formidable forces with progressive elements towards the development of our country by been fair and just in all your reports,"he said.
He assured that the door of the party is always open, and also promised to facilitate cordial working relationship between the journalists and all political appointees in the state.
Earlier, the chairman of the correspondents' chapel, Alhaji Maiharaji Altine, enumerated some of the problems faced by journalists in having access to government officials in the state while trying to cross check or balance their reports as demanded by the ethics of the profession.
He said members of the correspondents' chapel are not one sided or partisan, and therefore reiterated the commitment of his colleagues to give all segment of the society equal and fair hearing.
