Tunis — President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali took interest in the activities of the National Union of the Blind, when receiving, on Friday morning, Union chairman Imededdine Chaker.
The Head of State reasserted keenness to provide the blind with the required guidance and needed assistance, notably at the social, cultural and educational levels, and more particularly regarding the higher-education graduates' employment.
The President of the Republic enquired about Braille learning programmes, recommending to reinforce these programmes and to develop the publishing and reference areas in this writing system.
Mr. Imededdine Chaker presented, on the occasion, the first of an eight-volume edition of the Holy Koran in Braille which the Head of State had ordered to achieve for the benefit of the blind.
Mr. Chaker extended to the President of the Republic gratitude of the National Union of the Blind and its members for the high kindness he lavishes on them and for the noteworthy achievements accomplished for their benefit in the various fields.
