Abuja — The National Judicial Council (NJC) has queried the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Sabo Suleiman Darazo over allegation of misconduct levelled against him by the Bauchi State Chapter of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP).
Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the NJC, in a letter to Justice Darazo, demanded response to the petition against him within two weeks.
The one paragraph letter dated 27th October titled: "Re-unprofessional conduct and abuse of Judicial process by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Sabo Suleiman Darazo" reads:
"I forward herewith a petition dated 20th October, 2009 against you by one Alhaji Sani Shehu (Sani Mallam), ANPP Chairman, Bauchi State, on the above subject matter. The petition speaks for itself, I shall be glad to have your comments within two weeks of receipt of this letter, please".
The ANPP chairman in Bauchi State, Alhaji Sani Shehu alleged in the petition that Justice Darazo had abused court process by granting order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting the bye-election for Gamawa state constituency in the state House of Assembly.
He also raised the issue of the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State Alhaji Muhammed Garba Gadi, ac-cusing the Bauchi CJ of acting unprofessionally at certain points in the impeachment saga. He accused Darazo of colluding with the state government in the several issues raised in the petition.
